Pedro Eduardo Ribeiro announces two new contributions on Magazine Studies

Pedro Eduardo Ribeiro, member of the international Magazine Media Research Network (MagNet), has recently shared two new contributions on magazines and contemporary communication dynamics. The first is the completion of his PhD in Communication Sciences at the University of Minho, where he defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Revistas de estilo de vida, objetificação do corpo e afeto transmédia: sentidos, discursos e interseccionalidades” [Lifestyle magazines, body objectification and transmedia affect: meanings, discourses and intersectionalities]. The thesis examines how Women’s Health magazine constructs meanings around body representation and objectification, while exploring how affect circulates between magazine covers and audiences across transmedia contexts, including print and Instagram. Ribeiro has also recently published a book chapter titled “Time and Artificial Intelligence: The Construction of the Future by Newsmagazines”, featured in Volume 1 of Artificial Intelligence and Discourse. Drawing on covers from L’Espresso (Italy), TIME (US), and Visão (Portugal), the chapter explores how newsmagazines construct cultural imaginaries of AI and societal transformation, highlighting magazine covers as spaces where temporal narratives and public expectations are actively shaped.
